Wordpress Blog SEO – Search Engine Optimization Of Wordpress
- 0 Comments
Making your blog search engine friendly is a must to get highly ranked and bring in streams of new readers. However I’m not going to talk too much about over the top techniques here as when you’re building a long term blog you’ll want to make sure you don’t use any techniques that can hurt your blog’s rankings.
All you need to do is make little changes to your wordpress blog. The very first thing you need to do to optimize your blog for the search engines is make sure your Blog’s title and tagline sections are filled in correctly.
To do this go to options section in your control panel and in general options you’ll see right at the top your Weblog title and Tagline. You need to make sure your main key-phrases are in these as the search engines will pick this content up.
The next thing you need to check is your Permalinks structure. This needs to be set to custom and the custom structure needs to be:
/%postname%/
This is because the search engines give more weight to folders closer your root directory and when you have the link structure set as:
/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/
You’ll see that an extra 3 folders have been created meaning the post is deeper and as the search engines see it, not as important.
Before you do this make sure you have the Customizable Permalinks Plugin activated in the plugin section of your admin control panel. This can be done by clicking on plugins and going down to the bottom. Then select Activate.
The next thing you need to do is install the Google Sitemaps Plugin. This wordpress plugin generates a XML Sitemap of your blog which will help you get spidered and indexed by not just Google but Yahoo and MSN as well.
Now this is all the basic Search Engine Optimization we need to do on our blog. There are a few advanced techniques you can use like latent semantic indexing but it is not needed.
