Your default Google/Yahoo toolbar may get hijacked and a new toolbar appears in that place.

8. New Files:

Without your intervention, some new files get loaded on your desktop. The spyware advertisers make you to click them.

9. Mysterious Favorites:

All your favorites and bookmarks are gone and are replaced by mysterious sites tempting you to click.

10. Puzzling Search Results:

Even your favorite search engine gives puzzling results. This is something like hijacking the search engine itself.

    Great post.
    May I add that you can check your Firewall Logs too for info on whats trying to get in.
    Use NetStat to check whats looking at your ports.
    Its a constant battle to remain safe online. But the online experience is too precious to not have.
